Mirchi Vada (Banana Pepper Cutlet)

Mirchi Vada is a spicy Indian snack consisting of banana pepper and potato stuffing, served hot with tomato sauce or occasionally with mint and tamarind chutney. This recipe is extremely delicious or appealing and if you are a fan of chillies and want to eat something spicy and tangy then this recipe is a best choice. So lets start preparing it:-

Ingredients

For Vadas (Cutlets):-

  1. Banana Pepper:- 7 (250 gms)
  2. Chickpea Flour:- 1.5 cup
  3. Coriander Leaves:- 1 tablespoon
  4. Salt:- a little more than 3/4 teaspoon
  5. Red Chilli Powder:- 1/2 teaspoon
  6. Coriander Powder:- 1 teaspoon
  7. Asafoetida:- 1 pinch
  8. Water:- 1 cup
  9. Oil for frying vadas

For Potato Stuffing:-

  1. Boiled Potato:- 4 (medium)
  2. Salt:- 3/4 teaspoon
  3. Red Chilli Powder:- 1/2 teaspoon
  4. Coriander Powder:- 3/4 teaspoon

1 Cup contains 140 ml. of water

Use 140 ml cup for every cup measurements.

Method

For Potato Stuffing:-

  • Take a big bowl and mash boiled potatoes in it and then add salt, red chilli powder and coriander powder in it and then mix them well.
  • Our Potato Bhurta or Stuffing is ready for filling.

For Vadas (Cutlet):-

  • Wash coriander leaves and banana pepper and then chop and slit them respectively.
  • Now, take a small amount of stuffing and fill it in slit pepper. Similarly, fill stuffing in all other peppers as shown in slideshow.
  • Take a bowl and add chickpea flour in it then add salt, red chilli powder, coriander powder, chopped coriander leaves and asafoetida in it. Mix them well.
  • Now, add water little by little to make batter. Your batter should neither be too thin nor be too thick.
  • Now, its time to fry vadas. Take a pan and pour oil in it. Let it heat and when the oil is hot enough then take a potato stuffed pepper then dip and coat it with chickpea flour batter and then place it in hot oil. Similarly, place other coated peppers in hot oil. Fry them in batches.
  • Fry them by flipping and tossing them till they becomes golden brown in colour (say 5-7 min.).
  • Take them out with skimmer. Our Mirchi Vadas are ready to serve. Serve them hot with tomato sauce, mint chutney, coriander chutney or tamarind chutney.
